The Raiffeisen Group is the third-largest banking group in Switzerland and leader in retail banking with more than 900 branches. We believe in close personal relationships in combination with convenient modern technologies. Apart from contemporary digitalization initiatives, we launched in 2017 a program to extend our client advisor teams with a semi-humanoid robot (called Pepper) to enhance customer experience, facilitate relationships, have fun and connect people with technology. Due to the positive resonance, we like to extend Pepper’s capabilities and find new ways to interact with our customers. We support creative hack teams with experienced robotics coaches (on-site) as well as an appealing development environment. We look forward to seeing inspiring ideas to foster our existing relationships with a likable touch of technology.

Today, drone applications are generally manual which entails the involvement of humans in piloting them. Thus, exciting drone applications, like drone delivery, are not possible yet and cannot be scaled. The solution to this is autonomous flights. Of course, safety needs to be ensured before authorities even think of allowing such flights and one significant part of this is automatic collision avoidance - between a drone and another or an airplane. The biggest challenge is to have the relevant air traffic data and proven collision avoidance algorithms. We have the data, you may use it to play around with various approaches to solving the automatic collision avoidance issue. Create a simulator with integrated air traffic data and collision avoidance. Additionally, create the possibility for all of this to be seen in AR by the pilot. The pilot puts on AR glasses and gets to see all the sky filled with these flying objects, practically getting eyes in the line of sight of the drone.

Meet AppCloud: our cloud platform based on Cloud Foundry for instant cloud-native application deployment - no matter what programming language or framework you use. Get your credentials for free at the Swisscom Lounge.

Research shows that millennials are horrible drivers. Texting, emailing, chatting behind the wheel, running red lights, eating and drinking are just a few of the reckless acts millennials do while driving.

Are you a millennial? Do you agree? Is the research just wrong?

We challenge you to find out 1) how millennials really drive 2) how we can help improve and protect the lives of millennials on the move.

Bright Box has provided anonymous driving history of 1000 millennials in a city, over one full year, and in comparison, a contrast group of all ages in the same city, in the same year. Where they park, where they started the engine, where they brake or accelerate. You will also get access to ArcGIS; a complete mapping and analytics platform for developers: use location intelligence to your advantage and combine demographic and lifestyle data with millennials’ movements.

We trust that with such data and powerful tools you can add your creativity to retrieve and share valuable insights, and we encourage you to turn them into products or services.

Find out more at our workshop, and learn how we can help you win!

Have you ever heard of Veles, Macedonia? This small city of less than 50'000 inhabitants has been dubbed a fake news factory, pumping out thousands of fake articles on the US-elections throughout 2016. But deepfakes and other synthetically generated content even damage the credibility of videos. While some neural networks specialize in the creation of fake news, others learn their detection. With technology advancing rapidly, fake news remains a pressing problem in today's political landscape. Join us in using data-hungry machine learning algorithms and the swarm-intelligence of a blockchain-network to counter this problem! You can use our API portal api.srgssr.ch to get access to audio and video content with metadata, articles, election results in Switzerland and other countries back to 1900 and the Swiss music portal mx3.ch. SRF is the Swiss public service media. 9 Radio- and 3 TV-Stations produce high-quality German-language content for Switzerland's biggest audience.

In 2019, CERN will fully open its doors to the public for a weekend. During CERN’s last open days, in 2013, more than 70,000 people visited the laboratory. During the open days, visitors have the opportunity to descend around 100 meters underground to the experimental caverns on the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. They can also visit the complex control centers at CERN and discuss with experts from the laboratory about physics, engineering, and computing. We challenge you to create a virtual, interactive experience related to CERN, its exhibits and outreach materials. Participants can decide how ‘deep’ the users’ experience should be — from fully virtual with avatar interaction, to augmented overlays of digital content, to simple information-gathering from CERN’s vast library of outreach materials. Knowing where to start can be difficult, so this application should be structured to support as many social and immersive technologies as possible.

Details

Our planet’s resources are finite - help raise awareness of humanities demands on planet earth by developing a solution that enhances transparency of the ‘REAL COST’ of what we eat. Humanity uses 1.7 planets worth of resources every year. The date on which we consume more resources than we can replenish during that year is called EARTH OVERSHOOT DAY - This year this occurred on 1st August. 30% of the world’s greenhouse gases are used to produce the food we eat. 30% of the food we produce is lost along the supply chain. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE. If I replace the beef in my spaghetti bolognaise with kangaroo I make a positive contribution… better still use lentils (80% lower than beef). WE CHALLENGE YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE NOW! Your solution should raise awareness of the ecological cost of different food choices that we make every day. You choose the solution and the platform, and together with Buhler we develop INNOVATIONS FOR A BETTER WORLD.

For the next 40 hours, we will appoint you into the position of shaping the interaction with the bank according to your vision.

In doing so, you have the freedom to develop your own tailored application that reflects your imagination of a dream bank. Either, achieve WHAT the bank is not able to offer, leveraging the bank data model smartly, e.g., a payment service that considers your predicted wealth. Of course, feel free to demonstrate your potential and come up with your own ideas. Or you focus on HOW to generate an added value for the bank's customers, e.g., make data valuable and illustrate existing information in a mind-blowing manner. Again, there are no limits in the way you frame the interaction, be it with the bank or with the user of your application.

We will provide you with a few interesting APIs and datasets.

Furthermore, we have some smart gadgets available and a selected team of subject matter experts who will support you on the ground.

We are looking forward to shaping the future together with YOU!

People all over the globe struggle with the complexity of online car configurators. Customers are overwhelmed by the enormous range of available features and confused by conflicts between chosen equipments. Currently, the configuration process is very hierarchical. This makes it difficult for customers to browse through all models meeting their needs (price limit, maximal fuel consumption, certain special equipment). All these problems lead to high bounce rates and frustrated customers.

You can change this! The newly designed Open Configurator API (OKAPI) provides you with the necessary data. Create a new smooth way for our customers to configure their new car! Persuade us with a solution that offers great usability!

With OKAPI you get access to all relevant data for the brands Audi and Volkswagen. This includes model data, available equipment, rendered model images, prices and consumption data.

Possible use cases:

Email-Scanner: All emails are scanned and assigned to patterns on receipt. This allows the visualization of the emails and its content in a timeline. The lawyers see immediately whether they have reacted to an email or not, whether they are working with the current version of an attachment, ect. The scanner should have the broadest possible compatibility as an Outlook plugin.

GDPR Tool: A program examines all of a company’s information for personal data and shows where this data is used within the companies applications. This enables an efficient and effective inventory of personal data for GDPR compliance reasons.

Collaboration Dashboard: Current legal advisory mandates shall be visualized on a cockpit. Who is responsible, what costs have already been incurred or invoiced, document filing, deadline management, versioning of documents/contracts and further information on a consulting case should improve collaboration between clients and lawyers.

These are only examples. Hackers are invited to develop their own applications, those that they would require from law firms as customers in 5 years. Be futuristic, visionary and smart!

In both buildings and public transport, more and more sensors are deployed for various applications: occupant comfort, smart building, mobile ticketing, seat allocation, indoor navigation, ...

However, these applications only serve a specific use-case and do not integrate different domains into multimodal solutions.

The challenge: Create a new use-case that fuses sensors and data from both worlds - buildings and public transport. You are free to integrate additional data sources from the opendata world. Use whatever technology stack and platform suits your needs the best.

We provide: Access and support to our APIs for building technology sensors that are deployed within the premises of the event and public transport data from both trains and stations. Each team also receives a set of Bluetooth BLE Beacons that are mapped to a tram running in the vicinity of the event.

We look forward to work with your highly creative group at the HackZurich 2018!

Details

While civic leaders are working on the big challenges of a bulging planet, the population keeps growing and risks keep mutating. The 'haves' have aging infrastructure and demographic challenges, while the 'have-nots' have hope, energy and homes in the zones most exposed to environmental threats like flooding, drought or earthquakes. We believe that tech can accelerate the deployment of solutions and give glocal leaders new options as they seek to unrisk this fragile planet.

You will be working with weather, climate, flight, medical or smart home datasets and a tech stack that includes cognitive, IoT and blockchain and cloud processing possibilities. The challenge is to predict, prevent or mitigate risk and create new tech-driven insurance solutions or find ways to make traditional insurance much less important.

Together we can make the world more resilient. Prove us right this HackZurich.
